The Twelve Walls of Agnusse Diah
Society and Civilization
Ora is ruled by one central government, composed of 1-3 members of each sentient race/species for a total of about 40 members. There is no one specific leader; however, certain more intelligent and ambitious races (TBD) have gradually taken charge of proceedings.* The government convenes in the central city of Harrow, where they discuss various issues in Ora and make worldwide laws. Apart from the central government, cities and towns in Ora are generally left to govern themselves in whatever way they choose, the only exception being if all of Ora is threatened by the city. Fights, feuds, and alliances, especially between smaller towns and villages, are common and almost always left unregulated.
*A very powerful NG race, preferably vaguely humanoid, will probably end up being in this position. Right now I am thinking I will probably use angels and tweak their stats a bit, as they are a race I can have the PCs fight when their levels are high enough if it comes to that.
Ora’s official language is Common, because I am lazy. Except in extremely rural places, almost everyone the PCs encounter will speak Common. However, ancient writings the PCs discover might be in other languages, and certain villages might have their own local dialects to add an element of challenge later on in the story.
Compared to Agnusse-Diah, Ora is remarkably segregated. This is not necessarily due to races not getting along, however. Rather, the radiation from Ora’s nuclear war several hundred years ago caused hundreds of mutations and thus births of new races, many of them developing in tune with their location. A substantial amount of these newly-formed races simply never left the places where they evolved.
Other than this, Ora’s races tend to get along for the most part, except in certain isolated cases (mainly because racial struggles make a good brief adventure for PCs). Once I have decided what sentient races exist in Ora I will add more detail to this.
